Make event posters and specials graphics in ChatGPT when you didn't get a photo, but keep real photos for weddings and premium dishes

who Chef Andy Thomson, owner of Lisa's Family Restaurant in Windsor, Nova Scotia, Station Six in Spryfield and Horizons Catering, in the Halifax Examiner

What it does

Per the Halifax Examiner, Thomson regularly uses ChatGPT to generate images of food served at his restaurants and to make posters for musical performers and wing nights; he used it to promote Station Six's "Burger Bash" special. "I can just basically figure out what I want to tell it, and then generate it pretty accurately." He doesn't use AI to promote his catering business, and real photos are used for dishes like lamb or bison and for wedding clients.

The problem

Thomson describes himself as "not a computer-savvy guy" and says that when he's busy he forgets to take a picture at the restaurant, yet he needs promotion done "instantaneously, because we're already on top of the event."

What happened

He finds ChatGPT "really simple" and says that although someone complained about the burger image, "The majority of people thought the pictures looked great. We did well with the burger." The Examiner notes the restaurant's name is inconsistent on some of the posters. No figures were given. Self-reported.

How to set it up yourself

  1. What Station Six and Lisa's Family Restaurant do: per the Halifax Examiner, the owner makes posters for music nights, wing nights and specials like a "Burger Bash" in ChatGPT, and generates food images when he didn't get a photo. Catering, wedding and premium dishes get real photos.
  2. Write the poster facts first: event, date, time, price, restaurant name exactly as on your sign, and address.
  3. In ChatGPT, use the prompt below. If you have even a quick phone photo of the dish, upload it so the image matches what you serve.
  4. Zoom in and check every word before posting: the Examiner found an inconsistent restaurant name on some posters, and other local AI posters misspelled town and business names. Fix text in Canva or your phone's editor if the image gets it wrong.

Copy-paste prompt

Make a {SQUARE / PORTRAIT} poster for {EVENT, e.g. WING NIGHT / LIVE MUSIC WITH ARTIST} at {RESTAURANT NAME}. Date and time: {DATE, TIME}. Price or special: {DETAILS}. Use exactly this text and nothing else, spelled exactly as written: "{RESTAURANT NAME}", "{EVENT}", "{DATE, TIME}", "{PRICE}", "{ADDRESS}". {IF PHOTO: Base the food on the attached photo and don't change how it looks.} Style: {CASUAL PUB / FAMILY DINER}. After the image, list every word you put on it so I can proofread.
