Snap a photo of broken gym equipment and ask ChatGPT or Gemini where the part is before you call a technician
Abraham Gerving, owner of Affinity Fitness, a 24/7 key-card gym with two locations (Washougal and North Bonneville, Washington) that is staffed only part of the day, on Daxko's Fitness Forward podcast (Daxko makes the club's membership software)
When a part on a machine needs replacing, he takes a photo and asks AI (he uses ChatGPT and Gemini) where it is and how to get to it, for example the battery in an older elliptical or a fan motor, and handles simple fixes himself.

The problem
The club has no technician on staff, so even small repairs meant either calling one in or hunting around inside the machine.
What happened
Self-reported: the AI "knew exactly where" the elliptical's battery was, which saved him a lot of hunting around. He calls a technician for anything that isn't simple. No cost or time figures are given. Note: the podcast is produced by Daxko, the club's membership-software company; he is a customer, and the tools in this story aren't Daxko's.

How to set it up yourself
- What Affinity Fitness does: the owner photographs the machine, asks ChatGPT or Gemini where the part is (an elliptical battery, a fan motor) and does simple replacements himself; anything bigger goes to a technician.
- Unplug the machine and photograph the model and serial plate and the area you need to open. In the ChatGPT app, tap + in the message box to add the photos (in the Gemini app, use the + button in the prompt box), then paste the prompt below.
- Check its answer against the manufacturer's service manual or parts diagram for that model before you open anything, and order the exact part number from the manual, not from the AI.
- Stop and call your technician if the job involves the main power board, drive motor wiring or anything the AI and the manual don't agree on.
Copy-paste prompt
This is a {BRAND AND MODEL} {ELLIPTICAL / TREADMILL / BIKE} at our gym (photos attached, including the serial plate). Problem: {WHAT IT'S DOING}. I want to {REPLACE THE BATTERY / CHECK THE FAN MOTOR / OTHER}. Tell me where the part is, which covers to remove and in what order, and what tools I need. Mark any step where I should unplug it or call a technician. If you can't tell from the photos, say so instead of guessing, and tell me what to photograph next.We set up one AI automation in your tools, live within 48 hours of getting access, for $197.
