He took a picture of the customer's backyard, where four posts and a sheet of plywood covered her stored pots, loaded it into ChatGPT and asked for a garden shed with a flat roof sloped to the back, privacy lattice on the side and double doors in the front. ChatGPT produced an image; he showed it to her and she said "Sold." Then he asked ChatGPT for a materials cut list, bought everything at the hardware store, followed the directions and built it. He says he now does this on his builds; for a cantilever pergola, they took a picture of the area, it drew the pergola, and the customer said that's what she wanted.

The problem
A customer who wants a garden shed or pergola has to imagine it before saying yes, and a custom build needs a materials list before the hardware-store run.
What happened
One shed sold on the spot from the image and built from the AI cut list, in his telling, and the method now used on his other builds. No cost or time figures are given. Self-reported.

How to set it up yourself
- What Handyman Timm does: at the estimate, the owner photographs the spot, has ChatGPT draw the customer's shed or pergola into it to her specs, shows her the picture, and after she says yes asks ChatGPT for the materials cut list.
- On site, take a straight-on photo of the area in good light and measure the footprint and height limits. In ChatGPT, upload the photo with the first part of the prompt below and the customer's must-haves.
- Show the customer the picture as a concept, not a drawing to build from, and get her yes on the look before you price it.
- Ask for the cut list with the second part of the prompt, then check every size, span and fastener against your own experience and local code before you buy; AI can get structural details wrong. Price it from your own rates and material costs.
