Let an AI answering service take after-hours and overflow calls with an easy handoff to a person, and get a daily digest of every call
Jeff King, president of The Pest Rangers, a pest control company headquartered in Hanover Township, Pennsylvania, in PestWorld, the National Pest Management Association's magazine
King uses an AI-powered call answering service for after-hours calls and overflow. It can sell and schedule services, and for customers who prefer a person it makes it easy to transfer to an agent. The company is also beta-testing software from its phone provider that works in the background of every call, examining conversations, describing customer insights and summarizing CSR performance, with a daily digest of how many calls there were and what was sold. Neither product is named.

The problem
Hiring enough customer service reps is costly (the magazine puts CSR pay as high as $50,000 a year with benefits), and a call nobody answers goes to the next pest company on the list.
What happened
King says the call-analysis tool keeps getting better; no call or sales figures are given. A lesson he learned the hard way: some internal personnel calls were summarized and could have been seen by team members, so he checked with his attorneys about the security he needed. A Gmail-linked AI email tool was still in beta testing. Self-reported.

How to set it up yourself
- What The Pest Rangers does: AI answers after-hours and overflow calls, can sell and book, and hands off easily to a person; a call-analysis tool sends a daily digest of calls and sales.
- Ask your phone provider or answering service whether it offers AI overflow answering with a live transfer, and what it may book on its own.
- Give it your services, the prices it may quote and the calls it must hand to a person (complaints, commercial accounts, anything about health), using the prompt below; test it with ten calls of your own.
- Before turning on call summaries, decide which lines are recorded and who can read the summaries, so internal staff calls aren't summarized and shared.
