Give field techs an AI agent they can call for product manuals instead of holding with the manufacturer, then connect it to your CRM
Matt Kuehlhorn, founder and owner of Kooler Garage Doors on Colorado's Western Slope, on The Garage Door Podcast Lab
He had an in-house AI agent built and named it Weggy. Version 1 was for technician troubleshooting: a tech calls or texts the agent and it pulls the product manual and sends it. Version 2 is connected to the company's customer records and other data through MCPs and APIs ("I just know the right people," so someone else did the technical build). He mapped all inbound and outbound communications so it can text customers, book appointments and send invoices, with rules for when to hand off to a person. He deliberately keeps a human answering phones because Kooler is a premium brand. He also asks it for reports, such as one technician's conversion rates. He built his own rather than renting an AI voice product because with a vendor "they own the data."

The problem
Technicians in the field could "be on hold for 20 minutes" with a manufacturer to get a product manual, and he wanted to grow field staff without adding office admins at the usual ratio.
What happened
No time or dollar figures. Techs get manuals from the agent instead of waiting about 20 minutes on hold, he says. On his own LinkedIn he says there is "a human gate on everything." His advice to other owners is to start with any chatbot (ChatGPT, Claude, Grok) and talk to it by voice. Self-reported on a podcast whose host runs a marketing agency that helps clients set up AI; quotes are from auto-captions.

How to set it up yourself
- What Kooler Garage Doors does: technicians call or text an in-house AI agent for product manuals instead of holding with the manufacturer; a second version connects to the customer records for texts, bookings, invoices and reports.
- Collect the PDF manuals for the door openers, springs and models your techs ask about most, named by manufacturer and model number.
- Put them in a ChatGPT or Claude project and have techs ask it by voice from the truck, using the instructions below (our suggestion; Kuehlhorn's agent was custom-built).
- Before connecting an agent to your customer records, map every inbound and outbound message type and write the rules for when it must hand off to a person, as he did.
- Keep a human on anything customer-facing until you've checked its work; Kuehlhorn keeps people on the phones.
