Build a bed-bug risk checker that scores a hotel room from field photos
Andy Sanefski, founder of Perimetek Pest Management (East Syracuse, New York), in Pest Control Technology
A "captive" GPT is first given a description of high-risk hotel room features and how bed bugs use them. Technicians then feed it photos from the field, and it returns a risk assessment for the room, ranking items like an upholstered couch medium to high risk and a smooth desk or wooden chair lower.

The problem
Hotel rooms with high bed-bug liability need a quick read on which furniture and features to inspect first, and drawing those conclusions from field notes and photos by hand takes much longer.
What happened
Sanefski calls it "shockingly thorough and accurate", and says its leaps on unexpected inputs sometimes uncover risk areas nobody anticipated for the client. The company also uses AI for data analysis, trend reporting and predictive analytics. No accuracy rate or client count is published.

How to set it up yourself
- What Perimetek built: a captive GPT primed with what a high-liability hotel room looks like and how bed bugs use each feature, then fed field photos to score the room.
- Write the risk guide first: one page listing room features (upholstered seating, headboards, luggage racks, carpet edges, wall voids, smooth hard furniture) with your own risk level and the reason for each, in your company's words. This becomes the checker's knowledge.
- In ChatGPT, select New project in the sidebar, name it "Room risk check", upload the risk guide, then open ••• > Project settings and paste the prompt below as the instructions. (New custom GPTs can't be created on personal ChatGPT plans now, so a project is the DIY version; a Claude Project with the same file and instructions works too.)
- On site, the technician takes 4–6 photos per room (bed, seating, luggage area, edges) and uploads them to a new chat in the project with the room number. Check its table against 10 rooms you've already inspected by hand before you put its scores in a client report, and always label it as a visual risk screen, not proof of an infestation.
Copy-paste prompt
You are the bed-bug room risk screener for {COMPANY NAME}. Use ONLY the uploaded risk guide and the photos in this chat. For room {ROOM NUMBER} at {PROPERTY TYPE}, return a table: item seen, risk level (low / medium / high), reason from the guide, and the inspection step the technician should do next. Then give an overall room risk and the top 3 spots to inspect first. If a photo is unclear, say PHOTO NEEDED instead of guessing. Never state that bed bugs are present; this is a visual risk screen only. One short email a day: 3 new AI use cases from real small businesses, each with its source and setup steps, plus a Tool of the Day.
