Write online product descriptions for a 200-plus item catalog with Square's auto-generated item descriptions
Amber Cerone, co-owner of Pilgrim Pups, a dog boutique in downtown Plymouth, Massachusetts, on Square's blog
They used Square's auto-generated item descriptions AI, part of the workflow for creating new items in Square for Retail. "I put in what I'm looking for, and it's been really pretty spot on for what we would need for copy."

The problem
Amber Cerone and her husband opened Pilgrim Pups in September 2023, stocking items from local and small businesses. To sell online, they needed to add their 200-plus products to their website, each with a description.
What happened
Per Square, it sped up their website launch and made describing dog toys, leashes and other accessories less tedious. Cerone says, "It just saves so much time" and "it's been accurate too." No figures are given, and the article doesn't say which Square plan they use. This is Square's own blog about its own feature.

How to set it up yourself
- What Pilgrim Pups does: Amber Cerone used Square's auto-generated item descriptions while creating new items in Square for Retail, to write descriptions for their 200-plus products before their website launch.
- Make a spreadsheet with the key facts for each product: name, maker, material, size, color and what it's for. Take them from the tag or supplier sheet, not memory.
- When you create each item, use your point-of-sale's AI description option if it has one, or paste the facts into ChatGPT with the prompt below.
- Read every description against the real product before publishing. Fix sizes and materials, and cut any claim about safety or durability you can't back up.
Copy-paste prompt
Write an online product description for {STORE NAME}, a {TYPE OF SHOP} in {TOWN}. Product facts: {NAME, MAKER, MATERIAL, SIZE, COLOR, USE}. Write 50 to 80 words in a warm, plain voice, plus a one-line title. Mention the maker if it's a local business. Use only the facts given; never invent materials, sizes, prices or safety claims. If a fact a shopper would need is missing, write [MISSING].One short email a day: 3 new AI use cases from real small businesses, each with its source and setup steps, plus a Tool of the Day.
