Let ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude search your shop's catalogue and start a checkout through agent connections

who Kawah Buku, an independent bookstore in Selangor, Malaysia that sells Southeast Asian literature, on its own blog

What it does

The store added machine-readable ways for AI assistants to query its WooCommerce catalogue: OpenAI's ACP, Google's UCP and an MCP endpoint, plus an OpenAPI spec, a product feed and Product JSON-LD on every product page. Three tools (search products, create checkout, get order) let an assistant search the shelves, build a checkout and report order status using the store's own prices and policies. It runs as a WordPress plugin on WooCommerce with per-key API tokens, rate limits and signed webhooks.

The problem

Southeast Asian books are under-indexed online, so when readers ask AI assistants about Malaysian authors, the assistants used to say they weren't sure or invent a title, and never pointed to the store.

What happened

The store says an AI assistant asked about Malaysian books can now consult its actual catalogue, stock and ringgit prices. It gives no sales figures. It says it plans to release the plugin as open source and keeps human bookselling for recommendations.

How to set it up yourself

  1. What Kawah Buku built: a WordPress plugin on its WooCommerce store exposing search_products, create_checkout and get_order to AI assistants via ACP, UCP and MCP, plus Product JSON-LD and a CSV product feed. It plans to open-source the plugin.
  2. Start with the part any shop can do today: make sure every product page has Product structured data (most WooCommerce SEO plugins add it), with price, stock status and a clear title, and submit a product feed to Google Merchant Center.
  3. If you're on Shopify or WooCommerce, check the platform's current options for listing products in AI assistants before building anything; building custom endpoints needs a developer and security review (API keys, rate limits, no customer data in search results).
  4. Test it yourself: ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude about a product you stock, as a customer would, and note whether your store comes up and the details are right. Repeat monthly.

Copy-paste prompt

I run {STORE NAME}, an independent {STORE TYPE} in {CITY} selling {SPECIALTY}. Act as a shopper using an AI assistant. Give me 10 questions real customers would ask an assistant that should lead to my store, such as {EXAMPLE QUESTION}. For each, list what product data my site would need (title, author or brand, price, stock, shipping) to answer it correctly, and what's missing from this product page text: {PASTE PRODUCT PAGE}.
