Cull a portrait session in 15 minutes with Aftershoot, retouch with AI plugins and have ChatGPT write a first blog draft in your voice

who Mike Glatzer, owner of Mike Glatzer Photography, a creative, brand and headshot portrait photographer in Atlanta, Georgia, on his own blog

What it does

Aftershoot imports his catalog, sorts it by session type and picks the keepers; he reviews and tweaks its choices. Capture One's AI masks select eyes, hair or skin with a click and copy across a batch, and its AI portrait retouching handles skin smoothing and blemishes. Retouch4Me Photoshop plugins and Evoto do detailed retouching such as dodge and burn, skin healing and hair cleanup, and Photoshop's Generative Fill and Generative Expand add props and reframe images. For writing, ChatGPT summarizes research, suggests titles and outlines and writes "my crappy first draft" in his style from his past posts, which he then edits. He pastes a competitor's Google reviews into ChatGPT to pull out common phrases for website copy, has it make image file names, alt text and captions as an Excel table, and uses it with Grammarly to tighten client emails.

Tool cost

His figures: Evoto "like 13 cents per edit export"; each Retouch4Me tool is a one-time purchase. Catalog: ChatGPT Free $0; Go $8/mo; Plus $20/mo; Pro $100/mo · Grammarly $12/mo (Pro); free plan available · Aftershoot and Capture One not checked

The problem

Culling a session took 45 minutes to an hour, detailed retouching could take "a full hour for a single portrait," and a long blog post took hours to write.

What happened

Culling went from 45–60 minutes to about 15 ("about 5 minutes" for Aftershoot plus 10 for his review), retouching from an hour per image to about 15 minutes, and file names, alt text and captions from 15 minutes to two. He says the AI draft "cuts down the overall writing process by about 3 to 5 hours" for a long post. Self-reported; the post was first published in 2023 and updated in October 2026.

How to set it up yourself

  1. What Mike Glatzer Photography does: Aftershoot culls each session for him to review, Capture One, Retouch4Me and Evoto handle AI masking and retouching, and ChatGPT writes first drafts of blog posts, alt text and captions that he edits.
  2. Run an AI culling tool that works with your raw editor (he picked Aftershoot because it works with Capture One) on a past session, and compare its picks with the ones you delivered before you rely on it.
  3. For blog posts, create a ChatGPT project, add three or four of your past posts as files plus a short note on who your clients are, then paste the prompt below into a chat inside that project.
  4. Edit the draft into your own words and check every fact (he spends 30 minutes to an hour on each draft). Then, in the same chat, ask for file names, alt text and captions for your images as a table.

Copy-paste prompt

Using the past posts in this project as a guide to my voice, write a first draft of a blog post for {BUSINESS NAME}, a {TYPE OF PHOTOGRAPHY} business in {CITY}. Topic: {TOPIC}. Keywords: {KEYWORDS}. Reader: {CLIENT TYPE AND WHAT THEY CARE ABOUT}. Length: about {WORD COUNT} words with headings. Don't invent client stories, prices or facts; mark anything I need to fill in as [ADD].
